More like a 1. The worst part is that the novel starts off with beautiful writing and suggests an interesting read, but I didn't find it very engaging after the first few chapters. I was about one chapter from the end when I gave up, mostly because I don't understand how it went downhill so fast. Odd, perhaps the cultural differences were hard to communicate in translation. I think I might have missed the point. Even so, there was a richness in the descriptions of a very different world to the one I live in. Dec 08, Ana Maria rated it liked it.

Although parts of the book were beautiful and beautifully written, in the end the story line left me unsure and disappointed. Shelves: bookcrossing.

This book's plot was fairly depressing, but its lush prose and descriptive passages redeemed it somewhat. Not exactly a memorable read. I did not have a lot of empathy for any of the characters because of the construction of the book.
